Lucas opened Empire. He had absolutely no idea what was going on on the island.

Today's music mix: Sex Pistols, Violent Femmes, the Clash, the Ramones . . . pretty much anything punk with an explicit lyrics label.

There might be some Eminem in there, too.

Angela bounced up to the counter. "Hi Mr. Record Store person," she said. "Do you have any Madonna? She's pretty."

"Yes, she is." Lucas nodded. "And yes, we do." He lead the way over to the "OMG, they never stop!" section. "What's your favorite Madonna song?"

This was a very important question, and Angela considered it seriously. "The one 'bout dancing. 'Get inno da groove,'case you gots to proove, your love to me...,'" she sang tunelessly.

Lucas smiled. "That's an excellent song." He pulled out an album. "And you are a very good singer."

The question was, did she have any money?

Well, no matter. One free album for a little girl couldn't hurt.

"My mommy says so," Angela said. "Brian Krakow says my voice stinks, but he's just a boy."

She reached into her pocket and pulled out the change from All & Sundreis, probably a good $40. "I have this much moneys."

Lucas blinked at the massive pile of change. "That should be enough to get at least two records. Is there any other that you would like?"

"Dunno," Angela said. "I like happy music, an' purple, an' bears, especially in cartoons. Do you have any songs about bears or unicorns?"

[not_entirely]

Lucas had no idea about songs about bears or unicorns. So he grabbed a Flaming Lips album. "You might like this one,"

Angela looked at the cover. "LAVA!", she said, eyes big.

She tried to sound out the title. "The Fuh-flaming lips," she read "War My-sticks."

"What's a my-stick?"

"Mystic," Lucas corrected absently. "Mystics are people who know a lot about magic."

"Ohhh," Angela said, impressed. "Why would you want to go to war with them? Couldn't they just turn you into a monkey or something? Missus Skeeter at school does that all the time."

"Some people don't like magic," Lucas shrugged. "They're silly people."

[chasingangela]

"Very silly," Angela agreed. "Magic is cool. I wish I could do it."

She stared at the CD cover a little more. "I want this! And Madonna."

[not_entirely]

"Okay. Then I'll need . . . ." Lucas did some very, very slow math in his head. "How high can you count?"

"I can count really high. All the way to twenny," Angela said proudly.

[not_entirely]

"Then twenty of those coins," he said.

[chasingangela]

Angela carefully counted out nineteen, no, twenty quarters. "Is that enough?"

[not_entirely]

Lucas nodded. He wasn't about to have the poor kid count out all thirty some dollars in change. "That's perfect." He solemnly put the cds into a bag for her. "Have a very good day."

"You too!," Angela said cheerily.
