Lucas held the door open for Nadia.

"Come in," he said. "Have a seat. Can I get you anything? Water? Fruit?"

[ooc: I'm at work. I'm insane. And I'm bored. locked to, um, me.]

"Um, no, uh, thank you." Nadia sat down on the couch looking decidedly uncomfortable. She clutched her backpack to her chest.

She felt like she was about to cry.

This totally sucked.

"What's your name?"

She briefly considered giving a smartass answer. That would only get her deeper in trouble, though.

"Nadia."

[not_entirely]

"Nice to meet you, Nadia. I'm Lucas." Lucas sat down across from her and folded his hands. "I can't help but notice, Nadia, that you were taking things from my store."

Nadia looked anywhere but at Lucas. "Yeah,"

"May I ask why?"

[nadiathesaint]

What kind of question was that? Why did anyone steal.

"I don't have any money." She brushed her hair back behind her ear. "I will, though. Next week. I'll pay you back, or-or whatever. Just don't call the cops. Please."

Lucas just looked at her for a long moment.

"If you're going to have the money next week, why didn't you wait to buy the CD then?"

[nadiathesaint]

Nadia shrugged her good shoulder. "I've had a really bad couple of days. And the song has been stuck in my head for a week. I just, wanted to hear it. For real."

Lucas put his chin on his hand and studied her again. A total cross between Warren and Deb. He nodded slowly.

"I'll tell you what, Nadia. The boys on the floor are going to be leaving in a few days, and I'm going to need some more employees. You'll get a staff discount, and the money you need to buy music for real, instead of stealing it. Is it a deal?"

Nadia narrowed her eyes at him. Was he for real?

"You want to hire me. For shoplifting." Sarcasm dripped from her voice.

[not_entirely]

"It has become something of a tradition." Lucas studied her a moment longer. "Or I could call the police. Or the sherrif. The creepy soldiers in the white plastic armor. Whatever it is you have in this town."

[nadiathesaint]

"Can I think about it?"

[not_entirely]

"Not really, no."

[nadiathesaint]

Nadia smiled slightly in spite of herself. "It's a deal. When do you want me to work?"

[not_entirely]

"We'll try one day a week to start with. How about Sundays? Leaves your Saturdays free, and won't conflict with your school schedule."

[nadiathesaint]

"Yeah. Okay. I can do that."

[not_entirely]

"Great." Lucas stood and tilted his head at her. "I don't suppose you can draw socks?"

[ooc: aaaand scene! That's right folks, shoplifting at Empire Records and Bidet will get you a job there. Or possibly run down through the streets like the dog you are. It's an either or proposition, really. After all, the owner is, obviously, entirely insane.]
